Head Extreme One (2023)

The Head Extreme One 2023 is one of the most innovative rackets in the history of the sport. It is the first professional-grade racket to feature a single-hole design (to comply with FIP regulations requiring at least one hole). By eliminating the standard drilling pattern, Head created a racket that is significantly more durable and aerodynamic, while maintaining an ultra-light weight.

Technical Features & On-Court Feel

1. Single-Hole Technology

The most striking feature is the solid hitting surface. Without the standard perforations, the 12K carbon face is twice as durable as a traditional racket. Structurally, the absence of holes allows Head to use fewer layers of carbon to achieve the same strength, which is why the racket is so remarkably light (345g) without feeling flimsy.

2. 12K Carbon See-Through Face

The face uses a high-grade 12K carbon that is visible through the finish.

  • The Sensation: Because there are no holes to "break" the surface tension, the impact feel is very consistent across the entire face. It offers a medium-hard touch that provides a direct and crisp connection to the ball.

3. Auxetic Technology

Located in the bridge, Auxetic technology allows the frame to expand and contract based on the force of the hit. This provides a "sensational" feedback at impact. It makes the racket feel solid and stable during high-speed exchanges, which is crucial for a racket this light.

4. Extreme Spin (Rough Surface)

To compensate for the lack of holes (which typically help "grip" the ball), Head applied a rough, textured finish to the surface. This allows players to still generate significant spin on slices and technical overheads, though the sensation of "bite" is different from traditional drilled rackets.

5. Soft Butt Cap

The handle features a two-component construction that dampens vibrations. This is essential for a stiff, diamond-shaped racket, as it protects the wrist and elbow from the high-frequency shocks generated during aggressive smashes.

On-Court Performance

  • Defense: Its extreme maneuverability is its greatest asset. At 345g, you can move the racket into position instantly. However, because it is so light, you must provide more of your own power for lobs; it doesn't have the natural "mass" to push the ball deep without an active swing.

  • Net Game: It is a "speed" weapon. It excels in reflex volleys where you need to change the racket's direction quickly. The solid face provides a very predictable and uniform rebound, making technical blocks feel very secure.

  • Overheads: Despite its low weight, the 275mm high balance provides the leverage needed for smashes. It allows for a very fast swing speed. While it lacks the "hammer" weight of a 375g racket, the speed at which you can whip the head through the air results in surprisingly high ball velocity.
